Well, you asked for it, you’ve got it. Here is the current list of my top 10 favourite soaps and creams. I will be updating this list as I go, bumping scents off as need be. Also, I’ll be avoiding having too many similar scented ones on the list: there’s no need to have 4 Bay Rums for example. Also, max 2 spots per company. Gotta have a bit of variety to the list! Without further ado:
- The Strop Shoppe – Baker Street shaving soap
- Al’s Shaving Products – Calypso shaving cream
- Barrister and Mann – Cheshire Shaving Soap (Earl Grey)
- Kell’s Original Hemp Blend Shaving Soap – Energy
- Barrister and Mann – Bay Rum shaving soap
- The Strop Shoppe – Special Edition Teak Wood shaving soap
- Penhaligon’s Blenheim Bouquet shaving cream
- Wm. Nuemann & Co – Old Fashioned Soda
- Taylor of Old Bond Street – Avocado shaving cream
- Knockout Shave Cream – Citrus of Paradise

What? No Mama Bears? (jk) 😉

To be honest, I’m leery of posting any more reviews of Mama Bear; I have an inkling that perhaps the samples she sends out don’t hold the scent as well as an actual puck (since there’s been plenty of comments about scents I thought were weak being “overpowering”), and that might be throwing off all of my reviews. I need to do a compare and contrast with some samples and an actual puck. And post a warning if it turns out there’s a big difference.

Any advice on the brushes?
Palpz said:
I’m fairly pleased with the brushes I’ve been using; the ones that pop up reasonably frequently seem nice. The Colonel’s probably my favourite, followed by the Muhle HJM. The latter probably being a better bang for your buck.
But I’m not quite as obsessed about trying new stuff in brushes as I am with soaps. Thankfully, otherwise I’d be completely instead of just mostly broke.

Thanks, Palpz, I prefer the badger hair brushes, but they can be difficult to find (badgers seem to be protected animals these days?!).
The Baker Street soap is not on the Strop Shoppe’s website now. I wonder if that is temporary or permanent…

Huh. Wow. Looks like they’re down to just the Bay Rum, Peppermint, and Rosemary mint. Yeah, I wonder what the issue might be there. Their production schedule lists that they should have made some Bake Street last week; dunno if that’s when they start making it, or when that’s when it’s done curing, etc.

I’ve been updating as I go. The “honourable mentions” at the bottom are ones that have since been bumped off the list.
